The EMS Energy Institute at Penn State, University Park campus invites applications for an immediate post-doctoral scholar to conduct experimental and numerical research on a multi-disciplinary project on subsurface energy-related subjects. Broadly, the research involves using new materials for geothermal and oil and gas wells. This project is focused on a novel generation of low-cost materials to enhance the mechanical and durability of the cement and other materials. The successful applicant is expected to help in developing this product and help in preparing related proposals and technical papers in parallel with academic research activities.Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in petroleum engineering, civil engineering, mechanical or chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or related fields by the start date with Penn State. A strong background in experimental and theoretical works is highly desirable. Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and excellent computer skills. Fluency and/or high adaptability with lab works and finite element packages are also desirable.The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences takes an active role in building a talented, inclusive, and culturally competent workforce.
